Sandy Brondello states “Coaching the Australian Opals is an honour”.

Sandy Brondello has extended her contract to coach the Australian Opals through the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. This follows a remarkable year where she led the Opals to a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics and guided the New York Liberty to their first WNBA championship. Brondello’s involvement with the Opals marks her seventh Olympics, having played in four and coached in three. She expressed her pride in leading the team, emphasizing the joy of working with talented athletes and the responsibility that comes with it. Basketball Australia has also appointed Paul Goriss as Associate Head Coach to manage the program during Brondello’s WNBA commitments. The Opals’ success has elevated them to the second spot in FIBA’s global rankings, and they look forward to continued success with Brondello at the helm.
