Pat Moore’s administration of basketball with a special passion for women’s basketball, began in 1957 and extended until 1982.

Just two years later, after 25 years of leading the evolution of women’s basketball in SA and the nation, she received a Medal of the Order of Australia as appropriate and high-level recognition.

Basketball Australia recognised her accomplished leadership and influence by inducting her into the Basketball Australia Hall of Fame in 2006.

That recognition came following her stewardship as Secretary of the Australian Women’s Basketball Council from 1957 to 1976.

Her warmth, intelligent and personable nature led her to be appointed the Opals’ Head of Delegation for the 1967 and 1971 FIBA Women’s World Championships.

A decade later, while holding the positions of secretary and then president of the SA Women’s Basketball Council from 1961 to 1982, she helped establish the WNBL in 1981.

Satisfied that women’s basketball in Australia was now on a trajectory that would lead the Opals to become a powerhouse team on the world stage, Pat Moore stepped down from leading the women’s game for 25 years.
