Megan Schutt appears to have a ‘thing’ about firsts. Apart from taking the first T20 international hat-trick, she also took a wicket with her first ball when she was 11 years old.
Megan Schutt has the rare distinction of being the first cricketer to take a hat-trick in a Women’s 20 International match.
When there are two consecutive wickets down, and the bowler is running in to bowl, one imagines a steely focus, steady composure, clarity of plan, and a fierce drive are all required.
At international level, to achieve that is rare. Remarkably, Schutt performed the feat twice, once against India in a T20 match in 2018, then again in a One Day International against the West Indies a year later.
She became the first female in international cricket to claim two hattricks.
But Schutt has shown her capability to rise to the important moment throughout her career, spearheading the national and state teams to victories, such that in 2017, she was named in the ICC Women’s T20 International Team of the Year.
The following year, her temperament, game knowledge and leadership were acknowledged when she was named captain of the South Australian Scorpions, joining a line of SA distinctive leaders.

Filling in for the Seaford Club at the time, she was then recruited by observers, eventually playing for Flinders University Cricket Club, then ultimately to Sturt. One of her teammates at the time was Shelley Nitschke.
Her international career since 2012 has spanned for more than a decade.
