Marg was awarded the Australian Female Team Coach of the Year in 2000 by the Australian Sports Commission and received an OAM for Services to Netball.
There is daylight between Marg Angove and any other netball coach in SA in terms of range of influence, durability, success, and elite standing.
As evidence, she was selected as coach for the Netball SA Team of the Century.
Perhaps more outstandingly, she was awarded the Australian Female Team Coach of the Year in 2000 by the Australian Sports Commission and received an OAM for Services to Netball.
Numbers of Federations overseas have sought her knowledge as a coaching consultant – including New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, and Singapore.
In the Cooke Islands Marg led the Australian Men’s Netball Team as head coach.
But more famously in SA, Marg Angove was the inaugural Adelaide Thunderbirds Coach from 1997 – 2006, winning two Commonwealth Bank Trophies and under her leadership never missing a finals round.
That outstanding mentoring had been built on 16 years of coaching club team, Contax, leading the Premier League team to 10 consecutive grand finals and winning premierships – primarily during the intense rivalry phase against Garville.
Angove was strong on team culture, creating a closely-knit group that would transcend the game’s pressures and the years.
Many of her players including Kathryn Harby-Williams and Sarah Sutter remain close friends, decades after their playing careers ended.
Her daughters, Jane Woodlands-Thompson and Sarah Vidmar also made significant contributions to netball’s development in this state.
Marg also headed up the South Australian Sports Institute netball program – overseeing the development of many young netballers in SA – for many years during the 1980s and 1990s.
