Justine was a spirited goalkeeper and person – and after her playing career, was appointed head coach of the women’s hockey program at the University of Louisville in the US.
Born in Whyalla and having been introduced to the vibrant hockey program in her country town, Justine Sowry would become a world champion. Twice.
Although named to the Hockeyroos squads for the 1996 and 2000 Olympics, Justine Sowry was omitted in final selections but did play for Australia at the World Cups in 1994 and 1998.
Australia beat The Netherlands and Argentina in both finals.
She was capped 128 times during her international career which spanned from 1993 to 2001.
