Radiating warmth and smile, she was a popular figure in netball, the game she loved. Her vision was to grow the game across the nations and help develop netball wherever it had taken a foothold.
Diminutive but dynamic, Gwen Benzie influenced netball at domestic and international levels and was inducted into the Netball Australia Hall of Fame in 2009 – and was awarded the Netball Australia Service Award in 1965. Here is why:
Radiating great warmth and smile, she was a popular figure in netball, the game she loved. She lived and breathed netball through that passion.
Her vision was to grow the game across the nations and help develop netball wherever it had taken a foothold.
She led the international body with a deft intellect, clarity of purpose and great energy, enabling women at all levels to utilise their influence.
It is worthy to note the sheer duration of her service to the sport at all levels.
