Did You Know

Annie’s intellect for governance and leadership showed itself in her being elected to board roles within multiple sports; Softball Australia, Softball SA, Baseball SA and Hockey SA.

Sport for some people can be a complete immersion. Take Annie Fidge for example.

As a player, after graduating from the SA Under-16s in the mid 1980s, she represented the SA at the Open Australian championships for eight consecutive years from 1992, apart from the 1996 season.

Her strategic thinking on and off the diamond – and her ability to enjoy quality relationships with people – led to her selection as State Open coach for seven years and then another six years with the junior state women’s teams including U19 and U23.

This gives a stunning combined service of 23 years to SA Softball at all age levels as player and coach.

The daughter of a softball legend, Julie Dale, Annette Fidge’s greatest success came in 2006 as Head Coach of the SA U19 team.

Leading a united and skilled group of young softballers, she coached them to the Elinor McKenzie Shield as National Champions.

An involvement in National programs as a coach spanned for more than a decade starting with youth Aussie Squads playing in multiple Friendship Series, plus two Junior World Championships in the 2013 and 2015 – including a Bronze Medal in 2013.

She was elevated to the Australian senior team, the Aussie Spirit, as an Assistant Coach in 2017 and 2018.

Her intellect for governance and leadership showed itself in her being elected to board roles with Softball Australia, Softball SA, Baseball SA and Hockey SA.

Annette Fidge was inducted into the Softball SA Hall of Fame in 2019.
