In 1970 Lyn White was awarded SA’s elite Female Player of the Year recognition.
Loyalty in sport, especially at grassroots levels, keeps clubs together and therein offers opportunities for more generations of young and old to play the game.
Lyn White is one of those, loyal to her softball roots at the West Torrens Softball Club.
From 1964 to 1987, she gave 23 years of service including 221 games as an A-grade player.
In fact, such were her playing skills that in 1970 she was the inaugural winner of the Kath Correll Award for SA’s elite Female Player of the Year.
She was an important player for SA for 11 years.
Remarkably, while she was a player and a committee member, coach and umpire at her beloved West Torrens Club, she also held State association positions.
From 1968, she was secretary/treasurer of the SA Social Committee for two years, and a member of the State association governing body from 1972-75 and returned in 1977.
But it was her love of the game that drew her back to the diamond rather than the board room.
She became a State selector for three years. She also served on the Grounds and Grading Committee while on state selection.
Lyn White has been inducted in the Softball SA Hall of Fame.
