New funding for Sport SA Hall of Fame

The South Australian Sport Hall of Fame recognises athletes and people who have made significant contributions to sports in the state.

Anna Meares, Paris Olympics Chef de Mission and a legend on the hall of fame, will be joined by inductees and committee members Pat Mickan, Michelle den Dekker, Juliet Haslam, Katrina Webb and Rachel Sporn as Minister for Sport Katrine Hildyard announces the sponsorship at Adelaide Oval today.

Sport SA CEO Leah Cassidy told InDaily the funding was “not just a recognition of the government support for the event”.

“[It’s] a recognition of the incredible athletes who are inducted into the hall of fame. And so to have the government recognise that these South Australian’s deserve the honour is something we’re really proud of,” she said.

“If you think of some of the names that are on there, Anna Meares, Gillian Rolton, Bruce McAvaney, they’ve played an incredible part in our history, and in inspiring others to achieve more.

“That is ongoing when they’ve finished their careers, and we want to really shine a spotlight on what they’ve done not just for them individually, but what they’ve done for our state, and the inspiration that they’ve given us throughout their career.”
